Former Ward 2 Alderman Lisa Wynn has officially qualified to run for the Mississippi House of Representatives seat vacated last month by Rep. Tyrone Ellis, D-Starkville.
Wynn confirmed her qualification to the SDN on Friday after filing the necessary paperwork with the Mississippi Secretary of State's office in Jackson.
Because of the special election being held on Nov. 7, Wynn and all other candidates on the ballot will run as independents.
No other candidates have qualified for the race as of Friday.
Ellis announced his retirement in June after 38 years serving District 38, which has changed since he was first elected and now covers parts of Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties.
Wynn ran in a three-candidate race after serving her first term on the Board of Aldermen, but finished second to current Ward 2 Alderman Sandra Sistrunk.
In June, Wynn accepted a lobbyist position with the Jackson-based Octagon Group - a nonprofit group that lobbies for municipalities, government agencies and businesses in both the public and private sector.
Wynn told the SDN she will make an official statement via press release on Friday evening.
