A McComb man was recently served a felony warrant for perjury and is in the Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set over $151,000.
The Starkville Police Department served a felony warrant on 23-year-old Anthony Jones on Tuesday, following an incident where Jones provided a false identity in Starkville Municipal Court during an initial appearance for charges of fleeing from law enforcement.
Court documents say Jones was "all over the road," but did not give any further details to the ensuing chase.
The warrant issued for perjury carried a bond amount of $50,000, which increased the total bond set for Jones to $151,644.50.
According to court documents provided to the SDN via public records request, Jones was arrested in February after refusing to pull over when signaled by officers and then leading authorities on a two-mile car chase from Academy Road to South Montgomery Street, then on to Banyan Road, Gardenia Avenue and Brooke Avenue.
Following his arrest, Jones had his initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court where he provided Municipal Court Judge Rodney Faver with a false name and false date of birth, using the alias Alexander Issac Frith and giving his date of birth as Feb. 22, 1992.
SPD investigators later determined his real name and actual date of birth, which led to the issuance of the perjury warrant.
Court documents say Faver repeatedly warned Jones of the penalties brought on by lying under oath, but the warnings were disregarded.
The penalty for felony fleeing is a fine not to exceed $5,000 and/or a prison sentence not to exceed five years.
Under state law, perjury carries a maximum 10-year sentence.
Jones' next municipal court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19 at 2 p.m.
