Starkville students will have the chance for some free school supplies Saturday thanks to a local corporation.
For the fifth year, Southwire will hold its annual school supply giveaway in the parking lot of its plant at 103 Airport Rd from 9 a.m. to noon.
Human Resources Manager Natalie Henley told the SDN that the company gave out approximately 1500 bags of school supplies at last year’s event. She said that although it was the fifth year the Starkville plant would be participating, the company’s headquarters in Carollton, Georgia has been giving away school supplies for 13 years.
“It’s good to see the children come by to get bags, and knowing that we can help, knowing that they’re going to school,” Henley said.
Henley said the distribution would function as a drive-through, with approximately 20 Southwire employees volunteering.
The giveaway is part of Southwire’s Project GIFT, the company’s outreach and volunteering arm. Company-wide, Project GIFT includes more than 600 employees.
