Firefighters answered a call at noon on Sunday, April 16, to extinguish a fire on Barrett Road in southeast Oktibbeha County, which began while an Easter lunch was being prepared.
Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said the situation began when a kitchen fire erupted, and the District 5 Volunteer Fire Department, followed by the East Oktibbeha Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call. The workers had the fire under control "in short order."
Most damage from the flames occurred in and around the kitchen, and there was smoke damage throughout the house. No people were injured in the fire.
