Oktibbeha County volunteer firefighters had their hands full in the early morning hours Thursday, with a reported structure fire on Poorhouse Road and a traffic accident at the entrance of Aspen Heights.
Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said the fire occurred in the 1200 block of Poorhouse Road East at approximately 9:44 a.m. Within moments of receiving the call about a structure fire, emergency officials were also called to the scene of a vehicle accident at the entrance of Aspen Heights near Blackjack Road
Rosenhan said one passenger involved in the accident was transported to OCH with minor injuries.
“The fire was in a vacant house trailer in a field, the trailer was destroyed with the grass fire being quickly contained,” he said. “This fire was suspicious in nature and is being investigated.”
Both the District 5 and East Oktibbeha volunteer fire departments responded to the fire with East Oktibbeha, the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office, and OCH responding to the Blackjack location.
No fatalities or other injuries have been confirmed from either incident at this time.
