Ribbon-cuttings are routine today for the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, but they have a long history in Oktibbeha County. What was being opened here, and when? Do you recognize any of the smiling dignitaries in the crowd? If you do, let us know at editor@starkvilledailynews.com and we'll put your answer in next week's edition.
Last week's picture of six bearded men on a small bridge drew three responses with varying levels of detail.
“I am pretty sure the History Mystery picture is taken in Maben in front of Big Star,” wrote Kris McCarter. “My grandmother's house was right beside where the picture was taken.”
Brenda O'Brian supplied some names.
“I think this picture was taken behind Maben Library,” she said. “From left, Mr. Thomas, Walter Shuffield, Mr. James Thompson, Mr. Leighton Hall. Sitting is Gary Holland.”
And Yvonne Wooten had a little help in listing first names as well.
“The most recent picture of the men with beards was taken behind the Maben Public Library,” she wrote. “From left: Duane Thomas, Walter Shuffield, James Thompson, Layton Hall, John Ward and Gary Holland. Identified by Phillip Doss.”
