Milton Brown has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the second degree murder of Ellis Bishop Jr., and 20 years for the armed robbery of Bishop, following an altercation in 2013.

The case wraps up three years after Brown was initially arrested by the Starkville Police Department after Bishop was found shot multiple times at the Daw Wash car wash on Stark Road.

A joint investigation ensued between SPD, the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office, Mississippi State University Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and culminated in the arrest of two other individuals. At the time, SPD said drugs could have played a role in the incident.

Brown killed Bishop after robbing him at gun point, and he was indicted for capital murder in January 2014. Then sentences will run consecutively.

"Since I started my term as District Attorney, I told my staff to prioritize the prosecution of violent crime like the 2013 murder of Mr. Bishop," District Attorney Scott Colom said. "The hard work SPD and Assistant District Attorney Scott Rogillio resulted in this plea and conviction. Nothing can bring back the life lost to the Bishop family as a result of the defendant's terrible crimes; but, this at least brings the family closure and justice."
