A Starkville woman is in jail after be arrested in connection with a shooting earlier this month.
The Starkville Police Department, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Task Force, arrested 27-year old Portia C. Manning on Thursday for a shooting on July 8. One person was injured in the shooting, which occurred at an apartment complex on Everglade Avenue.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said the shooting victim was taken to OCH Regional Medical Center and later released.
In addition to aggravated assault, Manning was also charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana.
Manning is in the Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set at $33,102. The bond includes a prior charge of carrying a concealed weapon and violating the terms and conditions of her probation on a previous conviction in the Starkville Municipal Court.
If convicted of aggravated assault, Manning faces fines up to $5,000 and up to 30 years in prison.
Her next municipal court appearance is scheduled for Monday, August 21 at 6 p.m.
