Starkvillians will get a chance to weigh in on and learn more about a new infrastructure project Thursday.
At 4 p.m. there will be a presentation on sidewalks and bike paths to be added to Locksley Way and other nearby streets with a Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) grant. A two-lane cycle path will connect to the existing walking path at McKee Park, and run along Locksley Way. It will turn southeast and connect with a 10- foot wide multi-use path running along
Blackjack Road to Stone Boulevard near the ongoing Mississippi State University South Entrance Road Project.
“It’s a public meeting where citizens can review plans and ask questions about the design and construction,” said Neel Schaefer engineer Saunders Ramsey. Ramsey and MDOT engineers will be on hand to explain the plan and answer citizen questions.
The project will be funded by a $795,360 Federal Transportation Alternative Program grant with a required 20 percent local match. The match will be shared between Oktibbeha County, Starkville and MSU. The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors applied for the grant in January 2016 and received it in June 2016.
Ramsey said he hoped to finish the design this fall, with the project set to go out for bid and construction beginning by spring 2018. Completion is anticipated for fall 2018
