"Ceremony of appreciation” for MSU Women’s Basketball to be held Friday

Few accomplishments can top the Mississippi State Women’s Basketball team’s improbable run to the national title game Sunday, and the city of Starkville wants to make sure the team gets the proper recognition.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen on Tuesday unanimously approved a “ceremony of appreciation” to be held in the team’s honor Friday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the city hall plaza area.

MSU pulled off several upsets on its way to face eventual national champion South Carolina on Sunday, including an overtime victory against defending national champion Connecticut that snapped the school’s record 111-game winning streak.

No other details were provided by the board, but all alderman voiced their support for the team.

OTHER BUSINESS

• Aldermen voted 6-1 to approve on-street parking for the Mid Town Mix Use Project at the northeast intersection of University Drive and North Montgomery Street. Vice Mayor and Ward 6 Alderman Roy A’. Perkins voted against the measure
• Aldermen unanimously approved lower quote from Sullivan's for four additional security benches for SPD holding cells on amount of $3,966.
• Aldermen unanimously approved low quote from Garner Computer Services in amount of $8,148 for 42 Samsung - 16010 IP phones for SPD.
• Aldermen unanimously approved lower quote from Tiffin Metal Products in amount of $17,761.00 for a pass-thru evidence locker w/refrigerated component for SPD
• Aldermen unanimously approved lowest quote in amount of $14,580 for 2 Cisco switches and related equipment for SPD.
• Aldermen unanimously approved new inclement weather policy for Starkville Parks and Recreation Department.
• Aldermen unanimously approved authorization to advertise for bids for remote lighting control system for McKee Park and Sportsplex.
• Aldermen unanimously approved the hire of Gerry Logan as director of recreation and sports in Parks and Recreation Department.
