A series of strong storms rolled through the Golden Triangle on Tuesday afternoon, but had minimal impact apart from damaged trees and standing water.
Oktibbeha County Emergency Management Director Shank Phelps told the SDN they did not receive any reports of injuries or structural damage during or following the storm, but several trees sustained damage.
Phelps said a tree fell on a power line at Reed Road and another tree was reported down off Robinson Road near Oktoc Road. No widespread power outages occurred during the course of the day.
“We didn’t have any reports of flooding,” Phelps said. “The heavy rain came in quick and there was standing water in the road, but no flooding.”
The National Weather Service office in Jackson issued a severe thunderstorm watch early Tuesday morning, with the heaviest rain falling in downtown Starkville at roughly 1 p.m.
