Starkville aldermen will vote on whether or not to adopt the final proposed draft of the parks and recreation comprehensive plan at Tuesday's meeting.
The document lays out tiered operational suggestions for improving the Starkville Parks and Recreation Department, while offering a comprehensive analysis and future road map for improving green spaces, athletic fields and multipurpose spaces throughout the city.
Within the next 18 months, the plans said the city should reorganize SPRD's maintenance operations, create a parks advisory board and update all programming contracts. Long term suggestions included replacing aged and outdated playground facilities, adopting various service provider agreements and adhering to a five-year capital improvement project plan.
Within SPRD, aldermen should consider hiring two new positions: a director of maintenance and director of recreation and sports to help manage maintenance and event planning, the plan said. The proposed 9-member advisory board would give citizens a chance to participate in the parks systems' upkeep, according to the plan.
