A Starkville man is behind bars after police say he played some kind of role in a shooting that occurred in late December at a Starkville apartment complex.
The Starkville Police Department on Thursday arrested 26-year-old Christopher Evans, of Starkville, who turned himself in on the felony warrant.
He is charged with accessory to the shooting, with police saying the shooting occurred at an apartment complex on Garrard Road on Dec. 26, 2018.
SPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Brandon Lovelady confirmed to the media that Evans was charged as an accessory and it is unclear at this time if Evans will face any additional charges.
Evans had an initial appearance in Municipal Court on Saturday, according to police, and his bond was set at $50,000.
Evans remains in the Oktibbeha County Jail.
It is also unclear at this time what prompted the shooting.
Lovelady said the investigation remains open and more arrests may be pending.
According to Oktibbeha County Circuit Court records, Evans was previously indicted by a grand jury for burglary of a dwelling in 2019, but did not serve prison time.
Evans pleaded guilty to the single count and saw his case recommended for non-adjudication, which allowed Evans to complete a court-mandated program instead of serving the original five-year prison sentence.
