The case against Oktibbeha County Circuit Clerk Glenn Hamilton is on hold until a grand jury meets in November, according to Hamilton's attorney, who appeared on his behalf in Clay County Justice Court Thursday.
The grand jury will meet Nov. 10, Hamilton's attorney Rod Ray said. Justice Court does not provide discovery, he added.
"Nothing really happened today other than it was put off until after the grand jury meets," Ray said.
It was continued since one of the charges against Hamilton is a possible felony charge for possession of methamphetamine. He also faces two misdemeanor charges of trespassing and possession of Native American artifacts.
Hamilton was arrested in June with Rufus Edward Lewis in Clay County near the Monroe County border after a property owner reported individuals trespassing on their property. Hamilton was first elected circuit clerk in 2012, and won re-election last year. He served as a state senator from 1996 to 2004. He was also appointed chairman for the Mississippi State Parole Board by former Governor Haley Barbour in 2004. He served on the board until 2008.
