A Starkville man was arrested on a burglary charge at the block townhomes early Tuesday morning after reportedly fleeing the scene.
Shaquille Andrews, 24, was arrested by the Starkville Police Department on one count of burglary of a dwelling at the South Montgomery Street apartment. A press release states the victim reportedly woke up to an individual inside his or her residence, then reported the incident to law enforcement at approximately 12:25 a.m. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, but SPD officers arrested Andrews in the vicinity of the incident.
“The officers made contact with Andrews within the first 10 minutes of arrival,” SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said.
Lovelady said no one was injured during the incident.
Court documents obtained by the Starkville Daily News state Andrews broke into the apartment with the intent to commit petit larceny and under circumstances likely to terrorize the occupant of the apartment. The documents state the information is based on belief and statement of confession.
Andrews was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail at 3:35 a.m. where bond was set at $5,000. He has since been released.
