A Grand Jury will now hear the case of a Starkville man accused of cutting his girlfriend with a knife earlier this year

On Thursday, 37-year-old Frank Rogers, III, appeared in municipal court for a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Rodney Faver, who decided to send the case to the higher court.

Rogers is charged with aggravated domestic violence after cutting his girlfriend with a knife in late March earlier this year.

The Starkville Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Task Force arrested Rogers shortly after the incident for the felony warrant.

The Starkville Daily News previously reported Rogers is accused of cutting his girlfriend on the left thigh with a knife, causing a large laceration.

The victim was treated for injuries and released.

Rogers was released after bond was set at $10,000.

Judge Faver previously appointed public defender Ben Lang to the case.

According to Oktibbeha County Circuit Court records, Rogers was indicted in 1998 for burglary of a dwelling, however Circuit Court Judge John M. Montgomery dismissed the charge in 2000.

If found guilty of aggravated domestic violence, Rogers could face a minimum of two years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years.
