The Starkville Fire Department responded to a fire outside of Walmart Saturday afternoon. SFD Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough said the department initially received a call around 5 p.m. regarding a dumpster fire outside of Walmart.
He said upon arrival, bundles of recyclables including cardboard, plastic and wooden pallets were in flames.
The fire was located on the far right of the building. No injuries were reported from the incident.
Yarbrough said the only damage the fire produced was the fence adjacent to the Walmart property. He said if the fence was not there to contain the fire, the nearby residences could have been in danger.
At the scene, SFD utilized its ladder truck to douse the flames from above and about seven firefighters.
As of right now, Yarbrough said he is unsure as to what caused the fire. He said based on the looks of it, the cause was more than likely human error or by accident.
Yarbrough said investigators would arrive on scene, to help determine the cause of the fire.
