A Starkville woman is in jail facing charges related to the neglect of a juvenile and vulnerable adult.

The Starkville Police Department charged 26-year-old April Triplett on Monday with “contributing to the neglect or delinquency of a child; felonious abuse and/or battery of a child (felony) and vulnerable adult, prohibition against abuse, neglect or exploitation (misdemeanor).”

According to court documents obtained by the Starkville Daily News, Triplett is accused of not feeding or changing the adult victim, which led to the charge related to a vulnerable adult.

For the child abuse charge, the court documents say Triplett knowingly deprived a two-year-old child of nourishment and strapped the child in a car seat for about five hours.

Triplett was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail and will have her initial appearance in municipal court Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Her bond has not been set.

Felony child abuse under Mississippi Code 97-5-39(2)(a) is punishable by a minimum five-year sentence in prison or a maximum of life.

On the neglect charge relating to a vulnerable adult, the offender can face a maximum fine of $1,000 and or a year in prison under Mississippi Code 43-47-19(2)(A).
