Officials from both Columbus and Starkville have confirmed a Columbus police officer was pulled over for driving under the influence in Starkville earlier this month.
However, the next step for Columbus Police Sgt. Louis Alexander remains uncertain. Both Columbus Ward 5 Councilman Stephen Jones and Ward 6 Councilman Bill Gavin said they were unsure if Alexander would go before the council in executive session at its meeting Tuesday. Columbus Ward 1 Councilman Gene A. Taylor declined to comment on the issue due to it being a personnel matter.
Starkville Police Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady acknowledged the incident, and said no charges were filed against Alexander.
“Louis Alexander was stopped, but he was not arrested,” Lovelady said. “There are no charges pending for this traffic stop.”
City of Columbus public information officer Joe Dillon acknowledged the incident had occurred and said the city of Columbus did not comment on any of its personnel.
“Any items regarding personnel items are handled in executive session,” Dillon said.
The Starkville Daily News filed a Freedom of Information Act request on the incident with the city of Starkville on Friday, March 16.
