The Mississippi Department of Education released report cards for districts and individual schools in the state Tuesday.
The report cards contain data on the school’s performance on assessments in the 2016-2017 school year, as well as graduation rates for high schools and districts and teacher qualifications. Most of the information released was also released by MDE in October, as part of the accountability data. The data for the 2017-2018 school year will be redesigned and upgraded to comply with the Every Student Succeeds Act, the successor to No Child Left Behind.
STARKVILLE-OKTIBBEHA CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District is rated at a C, with an 87.5 percent graduation rate at Starkville High School.
Starkville High School also has 96.9 per-cent highly-qualified teachers and remains rated at a B. Proficicly levels are 49.4 percent proficient in English/ language arts, 28.7 percent in math, 58.5 percent in science and 55.5 percent in U.S. history. Overall growth in English/ language arts was 91.5 percent and overall growth in math was 81.2 percent.
Armstrong Middle School remains rated at a D, with 52.6 percent proficiency in English/language arts and 45 percent proficiency in math. The school saw 52.6 percent overall growth in English/ language arts and 45 percent overall growth in math. Highly qualified teachers comprise 92.2 percent of faculty at Armstrong.
Overstreet is rated at a C, with 31.4 percent proficiency in English/language arts, 31.9 proficiency in math and 55.9 percent proficiency in science. Overall assessment growth in English/language arts is 53.4 percent and is 57.1 percent in math, and 96.8 percent of teachers are highly qualified.
Henderson Ward Stewart showed 30 percent proficiency in English/language arts and 31.9 percent proficiency in math. Overall assessment growth was 42 percent in English/language arts and 34 percent in Math. At HWS, 97.2 percent of teachers are considered highly qualified. The school’s rating dropped drastically from a B to an F.
West Elementary is the sole A rating in the district, up from a C the year before. West students scored 29 2 percent proficiency in English/ language arts, 62.5 percent in math and 76 percent in science. Overall growth in assessment was 68.5 percent in language arts and 77.7 percent in math. At West, 100 percent of teachers are considered highly qualified.
Sudduth Elementary was not given a rating, but 34.7 percent of students scored proficiency in English/language arts and 39.1 percent in math, 98.7 percent of teachers at Sudduth are considered highly qualified.
No teachers in the SOCSD are teaching with emergency credentials.
WEST POINT CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICT
The West Point Consolidated School District was rated at a C, up from the D it received in 2016.
West Point High School’s Graduation rate was recorded at 90.3 percent. The school has 88.2 percent highly qualified teachers. At WPHS, students scored 36.4 percent proficiency in English/language arts, 26.3 percent proficiency in math, 52.3 percent proficiency in science and 36.5 percent proficiency in U.S. history. The school saw 71. 6 percent overall growth in English/language arts and 78.2 percent growth in math.
The Fifth Street School rose from an F to a C rating. Its scores were 22.4 percent proficiency in English/language arts, 35.6 percent in math and 61.5 percent in science. The school reported 56.2 percent overall growth in English/language arts and 56.6 percent in math, 100 percent of the school’s teachers are highly qualified.
South Side Elementary raised its rating from a D to a C, with 29.5 percent proficiency in English/language arts and 27.6 percent in math. The school saw 41.3 percent overall growth in English/Language arts and 45 percent in math. All of the school’s teachers are considered highly qualified.
Church Hill Elementary received no accountability rating, but received 30.6 percent proficiency in both English/language arts and math. Also, 99.2 percent of the school’s teachers are listed as highly qualified.
West Clay Elementary remained at a D rating. Its scores were 18.2 percent proficiency in both English/language arts and math and 52.9 percent proficiency in science. The school showed 51.7 percent growth in English/language arts and 49.4 percent growth in math. Of the school’s teachers, 94.6 percent were listed as highly qualified.
The Central School was rated at a C, with 33.1 percent proficiency in English/language arts, 26.4 percent proficiency in math and 59.6 percent proficiency in science. The school showed 58.6 percent overall growth in English/ language arts and 52.8 percent growth in math, 97.3 percent of the school’s teachers were listed as highly qualified.
