Volunteer firefighters from Central Oktibbeha VFD spent Tuesday afternoon at the scene of a single-vehicle accident.
At approximately 3:02 p.m., Central Oktibbeha responded to the scene on New Light Road, just west of Sykes Road, where an eastbound pickup truck rolled off the road into a ditch, landing on its side. The Central Oktibbeha firefighters, along with additional personnel from the Adaton and Sturgis Fire Departments cut the roof from the truck to free the driver. The driver was then transported by ambulance to OCH for evaluation. Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to the scene.
“The single occupant was not pinned, and not really hurt, but obviously could not get out of the vehicle,” said Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan. “We brought in the jaws, or cutters and cut the roof loose and folded it over.”
He said the driver was lucky to have missed some large trees along the roadside.
Rosenhan also lauded the efforts of the firefighters who responded to the scene.
“The fire departments involved did a really good job expediently getting him out with no additional injury,” Rosenhan said.
The accident stopped eastbound traffic on New Light Road for a short period.
