The Starkville Police Department is currently investigating a incident involving a Starkville man killed on Highway 82 early Thursday morning.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady told the Starkville Daily News the call came in at about 6:20 a.m. concerning a collision where a pedestrian was killed near Rockhill Road and U.S. Highway 82.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt identified the victim as 62-year-old Melvin Yeates, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hunt said Yeates experienced multi-system trauma and the body was transported to Jackson for an autopsy.
The incident is still under investigation, but Hunt said it is possible Yeates fell from the Rockhill Road bridge onto Highway 82.
