Starkville Utilities employee charged with embezzlement

The Starkville Police Department said in a press release Billye J. Asherbranner was an employee of Starkville Utilities at the time of the incident. Her bond was set at $5,000, which she paid immediately following her arrest.

A Steens woman employed with the city of Starkville bonded out of custody on Monday shortly after turning herself in on a felony warrant for embezzlement.

The Starkville Police Department said in a press release Billye J. Asherbranner was an employee of Starkville Utilities at the time of the incident. Her bond was set at $5,000, which she paid immediately following her arrest.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen at its Tuesday meeting met in closed executive session and opted to place a sworn complaint and felony warrant into Asherbranner's file with the city.

No details have been released concerning the embezzlement charge.

Her initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6.
