A Starkville man is dead after being struck by two vehicles last night in what authorities are calling a hit-and-run.
Lt. Brett Watson of the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office told the SDN the incident involved two cars and a cyclist on Old Highway 25, north of Poor House Road at about 7:45 p.m. Monday night.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed the identity of the victim as 23-year-old Dshante Nix.
Nix was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at 8:11 p.m. on Monday night.
Hunt said the body has been transported to Jackson for an autopsy.
Watson said one vehicle remained on the scene and the other involved left. The vehicle that left the scene before emergency crews arrived was said to be a greenish-yellow Toyota Scion or Matrix. Investigators believe the vehicle will have damage to the undercarriage and wheel well.
Watson said the suspect vehicle left heading north on Old Highway 25 into Starkville.
No other injuries were reported from the incident.
