An Oktibbeha County man is in jail after an assault call on the Mississippi State campus Monday morning resulted in a high speed chase.

Deputies with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office arrested 20-year-old Jeremy Young at his home on Cotton Drive following the chase.

MSU Police Chief Vance Rice told the SDN the incident began when officers responded to an assault call in the parking lot of Giles Hall involving a female victim. The responding officer spotted Young pulling the female victim from a car.

Investigators with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office said the event took place at about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The suspect pulled the female from the vehicle and tried to flee the scene but was blocked in by an MSU Police vehicle. The responding officer remained in the vehicle before being hit by Young as he forced his way out of the lot using the vehicle. It is unclear if the vehicle belongs to Young or the victim.

"He hit our car in the process of leaving the lot, but the officer is okay," Rice said.

Rice said the female victim had minor injuries and the suspect was not injured.

Neither Young or the victim - who are reportedly related - are students at MSU or affiliated with the university in any way.

Young was charged with felony fleeing and domestic violence. He is currently in the Oktibbeha County Jail and bond has not been set. An initial court appearance for Young has not been announced at this time.
