Rotary District 6820 governor John Fair presented a new way for members of Rotary to become involved at the national level during the club’s weekly meeting on Monday.
Fair presented the club with background information and his own experience with the Council of Legislation for Rotary International. The council is held every three years and is a “very intense” meeting conducting the business of Rotary.
In order to participate, the member must be a past district governor to be elected to serve. The duties of the representatives are intensive training, continuous study of enactments and resolutions presented by individuals and clubs.
The third year of involvement, the representative is required to present a report to the district.
Fair continued his presentation by providing examples of club rules and other resolutions he reviewed while on the council.
Fair told the SDN he hopes his presentation will provide helpful information to the current club allowing it to see the behind the scenes work above the club level.
“So many times new rotarians are not knowledgeable about the structure of Rotary,” Fair said.
The main message Fair said is to create more participation in Rotary international and there are a handful of Starkville Rotary members who can be selected for the specific role. The reason, Fair said is every club in the district is trying to identify those members.
“I consider Starkville one of the strongest clubs in the district,” Fair said. “It’s to show that there is an upper level up there and is available to everybody.”
