Mississippi State University Administrative Assistant Elaine Boykin Turner officially qualified Thursday to run for the open Oktibbeha County circuit clerk seat in the Nov. 7 special election.

So far, Oktibbeha County Election Deputy Clerk Sheryl Elmore, MSU Receiving Coordinator Teresa Davis and Municipal Court Administrator Tony Rook are the only other candidates to officially qualify. All candidates will run as independents in the non-partisan special election.

Turner told the SDN she can’t think of a better time than now to run for the open seat. Turner said this is an office she has always been interested in working for ever since Angie McGinnis was Circuit Clerk.

“There comes a time when you just really have to say 'ok I’m going to make this decision,'” Turner said. “I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”
