STARKVILLE, MS
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant announced on Wednesday the special election for House District 38 will take place on Nov. 7.
The seat became vacant when former Rep. Tyrone Ellis, D-Starkville, retired in June after nearly four decades in the Mississippi House of Representatives.
Bryant’s office said the qualifying deadline for the vacant seat is Sept. 18. If candidates do not receive a majority of votes, a runoff election will be held on Nov. 28.
House District 38 includes parts of Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties.
Another special election announced will be held in District 54, which covers Issaquena, Warren and Yazoo counties. Republican
