The officers of the Oktibbeha County Republican Party will remain the same for another four years after Saturday’s county caucuses and convention.
The county Republican Party’s executive committee re-elected party chair Marnita Henderson, vice chair Kim Moreland, treasure Les Miles and secretary Rodney Lincoln Saturday. The four officers will serve a four-year term.
“I am certainly am appreciative of being elected chair again,” Henderson said. “In the next four years, I hope we have people that work in elections and work as we have in the past to have true, honest and fair elections. I just thank everybody that participated in today’s meetings.”
Saturday morning began with precinct caucuses at every Oktibbeha County voting precinct to nominate delegates for Saturday afternoon’s county convention at the Oktibbeha County Circuit Court annex.
At the county convention, Republicans elected delegates to the statewide Republican convention, which will be held May 13 and 14. Edward Whitehurst Jr., Jason Camp and Terry Fulgham, Henderson and Moreland were elected as Oktibbeha County’s delegates for the statewide convention.
Republicans at the county convention also elected three people from each of Oktibbeha County’s five supervisor districts to serve on the county party’s executive committee.
Henderson, Moreland and Camp were elected from District 1. Mac Smith, Dennis Daniels Sr. and Joe Street were elected from District 2. Dennis Daniels Jr., Dan Moreland and Marco Nicovich will represent District 3. Jack Forbus, Lincoln and Miles were elected from District 4. Russell Dodds, Pete Cotton and Ricky Bishop will represent District 5 on the executive committee.
There are slots still available on the executive committee, pending approval from current executive committee members. Neil Dabbs, Chuck Henderson and Gary Chesser were added to the committee on Saturday.
The executive committee holds monthly meetings in the Golden Triangle Planning & Development District conference room. Henderson said Circuit Court Judge Jim Kitchens, who is running for a seat on the Mississippi Supreme Court, will be the speaker at May’s meeting.
