The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors could soon name an interim circuit clerk following the resignation of Circuit Clerk Glenn Hamilton earlier this week.
District 4 Supervisor Bricklee Miller told the SDN on Friday she planned to support former Circuit Clerk Angie McGinnis when the board discusses the issue on Monday.
"(The board) have not had any discussions, but I've had a lot of people call me that would like to be appointed," Miller said. "The majority of my requests were to put Angie McGinnis back in that position until the election."
Miller said she contacted McGinnis, who said she would be interested in returning to her old position if asked by the board, but would not run for the open position.
McGinnis was first elected circuit clerk in 1995 and served in the position for 16 years.
The Board of Supervisors is expected to set a special election for the position on Nov. 7, which is a ballot that will also decide Chancery Clerk and the referendum for OCH Regional Medical Center.
Board of Supervisors President Orlando Trainer told the SDN the board will discuss the position on Monday and take McGinnis under consideration.
Trainer did say he felt McGinnis was qualified to return to the position.
"Quite naturally, she is the former circuit clerk and by virtue of the fact of that she is capable of doing the job, but we will sit down and take it under consideration on Monday," Trainer said.
