The West Point Police Department is investigating Kaylee Rhea, of Prairie, and Nicholas Phyfer, of West Point, for the death of 48-year-old David Ryals.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department online inmate roster, Phyfer and Rhea are being held without bond at the Clay County Jail.
West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley said in a statement the WPPD was dispatched to 93 Dix St. after receiving a call shortly after 1 p.m.
Dispatchers reported that before hanging up, the caller said, “They are fighting.”
Brinkley said Ryals, of 713 Dix St. in West Point, became unresponsive after an ambulance arrived and was later pronounced dead at North Mississippi Medical Center - West Point.
“We’re still investigating what led to the altercation and charges may be pending depending on the results of the autopsy report,” Brinkley said. “There are some extenuating circumstances and the DA’s office has been fully briefed.”
An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Jackson.
