A Sturgis man was arrested Monday night and charged after two women were attacked in the area.
James Thomas Gregg, 41, was arrested at 8 p.m. Monday night and has been charged by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office with aggravated assault and possession of paraphernalia.
OCSO Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett told the SDN deputies responded to a disturbance call on Maben Sturgis Road and Simmons Road at 6 p.m. Monday night.
“Upon arrival the deputies found two females who had been assaulted,” Garnett said. “It was the result of a domestic violence situation.”
A 40 year-old Mathiston woman was stabbed in the arm and was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released shortly after the incident.
A 36 year-old Sturgis woman was also assaulted and fled from the attack into a wooded area. Authorities began the search around 6 p.m. and continued through the night. The woman was found around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning off of Big Creek Road. She was also transported to OCH, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Garnett said Gregg will appear before a judge Wednesday afternoon to have bond set.
“We try to set (bonds) between 48 hours of the arrest because if more charges are coming we'd rather have them all at the same time,” Garnett said.
Additional charges are expected to be filed on Gregg.
