A house fire sparked up at 52 Grass Road, off Blackjack Road in the early morning hours Sunday.

East Oktibbeha Volunteer Fire/Rescue units were dispatched at 2:43 a.m. Sunday, April 2, and arrived to find a fully involved fire near the Blackjack community.

"This was a large fire when we got there, but East Oktibbeha made quick work with what we call 'tank water,' which is the water we carry in the truck," Kirk Rosenhan, Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator, said.

Rosenhan said it took an aggressive attack by trained personnel with the proper equipment to take out the house fire.

East Oktibbeha was on scene for a few hours after the incident to make sure the flames did not return. Not all of the structure was burned, and there were no injuries.

Neighbors who reported the fire feared someone might be in the house, because there were vehicles parked out front, but the house was empty at the time of the fire.

The Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office, OCH, 4 County Electric, and District Five Fire Department were also at the scene.
