A good man is hard to find.
At least that’s what Oktibbeha County will be saying after celebrating the careers of two longtime employees.
On Friday, dozens of county workers and well-wishers gathered at the county barn on Industrial Park Road to give a proper send off to retiring machine operator Charles Logan, 60, and Road Manager Victor Collins, 54.
“I feel alright, I feel good,” Logan said. “I finally made it that far. It paid off.”
Logan worked nearly 40 years for Oktibbeha County and gave a big smile as he was joined by Collins to cut a celebratory white and blue cake that said “Congratulations Job Well Done.”
Collins said retiring after more than three decades with the county comes as a huge relief, like a load being lifted.
“I’m going to miss coming in and seeing the guys every day, but other than that it’s going to be a wonderful feeling,” Collins said. “I’m going to do a little bit of fishing but will continue to work.”
Collins then said he will work in trucking and construction to occupy his time during retirement.
Oktibbeha County District 4 Supervisor Bricklee Miller was in attendance and applauded the dedication and hard work shown by both Collins and Logan.
“We appreciate the dedication and loyalty they have shown Oktibbeha County,” she said. “You have to like what you are doing to stay with it and obviously they loved what they did.”
