The Adaton-Self Creek Fire Department and the Bell Schoolhouse Fire Company along with some additional Oktibbeha County firefighters answered a call to a large grass and brush fire on Walter Bell Road. The Mississippi Forestry Commission also responded.

"We believe it covered approximately 42 acres," said Kirk Rosenhan, the Fire Services Coordinator for Oktibbeha County. "There were three other grass fires or brush fires in the county."

The fire started before noon and firefighters left the scene close to 5 p.m.

"I just want to say that, though it's not windy and it may be a little damp, be careful when you have outdoor fires," Rosenhan said.
