The Starkville Board of Aldermen gave the green light to a new list of needs for the Starkville Police Department before they move into their new headquarters downtown.
The board unanimously approved $37,250 for data cabling for the project, $3,966 for security benches for holding cells, $21,374 for dispatch stations and $34,340.80 for a pass-thru evidence locker with a refrigerated component, a drying cabinet and a uniform organization system.
At the last meeting on Feb. 21, SPD Chief Frank Nichols said construction was approximately 72 percent finished on the new headquarters on East Lampkin Street, which is scheduled to be complete by May 20.
Ward 4 Alderman Jason Walker and Ward 5 Alderman Scott Maynard did not attend Tuesday’s meeting.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
▪ Ward 6 Alderman and Vice Mayor Roy A’. Perkins was the lone opposition vote when the board voted to approve the City of Starkville Claims Docket for all departments.
▪ Perkins also requested Mayor Parker Wiseman to contact MDOT Northern District Highway Commissioner Mike Tagert concerning delineators at the intersection of Highway 182 and Jackson Street.
▪ Aldermen unanimously approved the replacement of existing speed bumps on Long Street and Jones Street with asphalt speed bumps. Also, the board approved the addition of two asphalt speed bumps on Cole Street.
▪ Aldermen unanimously approved request from Volunteer Starkville for in-kind services for its Fifth Annual Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, April 22.
▪ Aldermen unanimously approved street and drainage improvements for Turnberry Lane in Country Club States in an amount not to exceed $40,000.
▪ Aldermen unanimously approved the purchase of an inflatable fire house from All-Star Inflatables for $8,030. Money for the inflatable fire house will come from funds donated by 4-County Electric Power Association.
