The Golden Triangle will likely see temperatures drop below freezing on Wednesday night, as part of a two-day cold nap impacting north Mississippi.
The National Weather Service office in Jackson has put Starkville, Oktibbeha County and the rest of the Golden Triangle under an elevated Freeze Warning for Wednesday night. NWS says expected lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
AccuWeather reports Tuesday temperatures fell just enough to hit the freezing point at 32 degrees, with a high of 48 degrees. The low for Wednesday is expected to be about 24 degrees in the evening hours, with a high of 50 degrees.
Oktibbeha County EMA director Shank Phelps told the SDN conditions were not expected to be dangerous, but locals should be mindful to bring plants and pets inside.
“A lot of people may have already bought spring flowers, so just get pets and plants inside and wrap outside pipes up,” he said.
