Thomas Brothers Formalwear opened on Thursday, Feb. 2 on Highway 12, just in time for prom season.
"We all decided this past fall to open here," said Sam Thomas, the owner and proprietor of the store. "We have stores in Tupelo and Oxford, so Starkville seems like the next step. My son will be at State this fall, our nephew is here and my wife cheered at MSU, so we're all Bulldogs, anyway."
The Thomas family's first shop is a partnership that opened in 1984 in Tupelo, and was named Kays Kreation. That one, Thomas said, is more of a bridal store.
"We have expanded into the tuxedo market in north east Mississippi, west Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas," Thomas said. "We do wholesale tuxedos in those states — for photographers or florists."
Thomas Brothers Formalwear in Starkville has done business for about a month and Thomas has reported great sales.
"Response has been quite overwhelming," Thomas said only a week after opening. "We're looking forward to serving Starkville with formal gowns and tuxedos, with a huge selection at the best prices. We're doing here what we've done for 30 years in Tupelo and Oxford."
Thomas Brothers Formalwear is a family-owned business. It is located at 450 Highway 12 West, Suite 5, between Penn's and Christy's. They have a Facebook page and have already posted pictures of customers in their formal attire.
