STARKVILLE, MS
Major storms are slower in arriving than originally predicted, but have become even stronger, according to Shank Phelps, Oktibbeha County EMA/E-911 director.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for 37 counties in Mississippi, including Oktibbeha, Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee and Winston, in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
“The main threat is strong winds and hail, but there is also a possibility of strong tornadoes,” Phelps said via email.
The weather station at Mississippi State University predicts hail and possible tornadoes Thursday afternoon, but the worst should clear by around 7 p.m., Phelps said.
