Mississippi Highway Patrol officers responded to a fatal pedestrian accident on Highway 25 early Saturday morning.

Roosevelt Taylor, Jr., 64, of Starkville was walking in the northbound lane of the highway and was struck by a white, 2002 Chevy Impala, according to a MHP news release.

"We are treating it as a criminal case and that could be somewhat lengthy," said MHP Patrol Officer Greg Bell.

The Impala driver, Raven A. Henton, 33, of Louisville left the scene of the accident and was located "a short time later by Starkville Police Department [officers] and detained for further questioning by MHP," the news release said.

"Any charges would be pending the outcome of what the investigation reveals," Bell said.

Taylor died at the scene of the accident due to injuries sustained during the collision.

"[Henton] has been released and she's been interviewed a couple of times, but it's all ongoing," Bell said.

The case remains under investigation by MHP.
