Starkville Utilities has issued a boil water notice for former customers of the Bluefield Water Association until further notice after a loss in water pressure.
The affected area is west of the Highway 25 bypass and south of Highway 182 and impact approximately 1,100 customers, according to Starkville Utilities General Manager Terry Kemp.
Once pressure is restored, samples will be collected and sent to the Mississippi Department of Health for assurance that no bacteriological contamination occurred.
Tests will be sent out on Monday and results will be given to local officials on Wednesday.
As a precaution, water used for consumption or washing uncooked food should be boiled for two minutes prior to use, Starkville Utilities officials said.
