This is obviously the aftermath of a disaster – looks like a fire. But where and when was it? And who were the men behind the impressive mustaches?
If you know anything about this picture or the people in it, let us know at editor@starkvilledailynews.com and we'll put your answer in next week's edition.
We had divergent but not necessarily contradictory answers to last week's picture, of a well-dressed crowd gathered for a long-ago ribbon-cutting somewhere in Starkville.
“I believe the man cutting the ribbon is Mayor Travis Palmer,” said one correspondent, known only as Anita. “The woman next to him in the sleeveless outfit and dark shoes is Sharon Applegate Nobles, probably acting as Miss Hospitality. Time period is late 1960s.”
Then there was Johnny Mitchell.
“I'm not sure of the location or why the picture is in the Starkville Daily News, but the young man on the front is Giles Ward (looks like he's standing behind a mic),” Mitchell wrote. “The man in glasses on the front row is Mr. J.T. Smith, principal at Louisville High School. The girl in front row is Carol Childs. One guy in the back row is Berlin Rogers, a teacher in Louisville High School. The man behind Mr. Smith looks like Cecil Jennings, sheriff of Winston County. I'm guessing the time is 1964-65.”
