A Starkville teenager is behind bars facing a felony aggravated assault charge after a shooting at Westside Market on Sunday.
The Starkville Police Department said in a press release 18-year-old Jakevious Goss was arrested Wednesday on the felony warrant. During the shooting, police say Goss shot at another individual.
OCH Regional Medical Center Director of Emergency Services Michael Hunt confirmed to the Starkville Daily News that Goss was treated for a gunshot wound at the hospital and released.
No other injuries were reported from the shooting.
While police were serving the arrest warrant, Goss was also charged will carrying a concealed deadly weapon — a misdemeanor.
The initial incident occurred at Westside Market on Westside Drive around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17., with SPD officers responding to a call of a person shot at the convenience store.
After police investigated, SPD said investigators believed the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Goss remains in the Oktibbeha County Jail.
A bond amount for Goss had not been set as of press time on Thursday.
It is unclear at this time if other arrests are pending.
