A Starkville man was detained in the Oktibbeha County Jail stemming from an aggravated assault charge in October.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office Captain of Operations Brett Watson said 21-year-old Jerome Davis’ case has been moved from Starkville Municipal Court to Circuit Court on one count of aggravated assault by use of a deadly weapon.
Davis’ case will now go before the grand jury before his case goes to trail.
The Oktibbeha County Circuit Court term meets twice a year in January and July. The winter term begins Jan. 28.
Oktibbeha County Circuit Clerk Tony Rook said Davis was not listed on the January grand jury docket.
His bond was set at $5,000, and he has since bonded out.
Davis was arrested by the Starkville Police Department on Oct. 21 in relation to a shooting on Stark Road earlier that month.
Davis’ initial arrest came after SPD received a report of shots being fired in the 1200 block of Stark Road at 11:16 p.m. on Oct. 13.
After SPD investigated the incident, an arrest warrant for Davis was issued on Oct. 18.
An affidavit of Davis' arrest obtained by the Starkville Daily News states Davis attempted to cause serious bodily injury to an unidentified person by firing several 9 mm rounds at the person.
There were no injuries connected to Davis’ assault charge.
Davis was released after bond was set at $5,000 on Oct. 21.
If convicted of the aggravated assault charge, Davis could receive up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
He has no prior felony convictions, according to Oktibbeha County Circuit Court records.
