A two-inch gas line on Whitfield Street was repaired Tuesday morning after being struck by a work crew.
Atmos Energy Public Affairs Director Robert Lesley said a Starkville contract crew hit the line.
“About 10:30 a.m. a contract crew working on a city project in Starkville cut a 2-inch plastic gas line,” Lesley said.
The gas line struck is the main line that runs under Whitfield Street.
“We responded and the gas line was back in service by 11:50 a.m.,” Lesley said.
Starkville Fire Department responded to the scene. SFD Chief Charles Yarbrough said he was informed someone hit the gas line around 11 a.m.
“The impact ruptured the line,” Yarbrough said. “Atmos (Energy) did get everything taken care of and it’s back in service.”
Yarbrough said there were no injuries from the break. Lesley said there were no evacuations and there should be no further complications from the break.
