A Starkville man was arrested by the Starkville Police Department on Sunday in relation to a shooting on Stark Road earlier this month.
Officers arrested Jerome Kenmar Davis, 21, on one count of aggravated assault by use of a deadly weapon Sunday.
An SPD press release stated Davis’ arrest comes after SPD received a report of shots being fired around 1275 Stark Road at 11:16 p.m. on Oct. 13. After SPD investigated the incident, an arrest warrant for Davis was issued on Oct. 18. An affidavit of Davis' arrest obtained by the Starkville Daily News states Davis attempted to cause serious bodily injury to an unidentified person by firing several 9mm rounds at the person. SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said there were no injuries in relation to Davis’ assault charge.
Davis was released after bond was set at $5,000 Sunday.
“There are no further charges expected for Davis,” Lovelady said.
Yet, Lovelady said investigators believe an additional misdemeanor occurred shortly before Davis' alleged aggravated assault by a separate individual.
"There's still an active simple assault misdemeanor warrant related to this incident," Lovelady said. “And we believe the incidents to be related.”
SPD had not yet released the name of the additional suspect by press time.
“These are the only two charges expected for the incidents that occurred that night,” Lovelady said.
Davis is currently expected to have his initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. If convicted of the aggravated assault charge, Davis could receive up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
