A person of interest is being sought by the Starkville Police Department after it is believed they hit a female Starkville High student with an SUV before leaving the scene late last week.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady confirmed that investigators had determined the identity of a suspect on Friday, but he declined to release any further information until an arrest is made.
Lovelady told the SDN on Friday that a silver Saturn SUV was involved in the incident, which occurred on Yellow Jacket Drive, according to school officials.
Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District Public Information Officer Nicole Thomas said the student was hit after school had let out. She was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center by Pafford EMS and was eventually airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for further treatment.
OCH EMS Director Michael Hunt said the student’s injuries were not life-threatening and Pafford Operations Manager Tony Fabela said the victim was ambulatory when EMS arrived on scene, with some minor abrasions.
Lovelady said the incident remains under active investigation.
