A Starkville man is facing charges of possessing cocaine and being drunk in public after police say he threatened a bartender in downtown Starkville over the weekend.
Starkville Police officers responded to a call Saturday morning after a man identified as 28-year-old Nicholas Sanders Davis had threatened a bartender after being removed from an unspecified business on Main Street.
According to SPD, Davis was initially charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, cocaine, and was also charged with being drunk in public. However, court documents provided to the Starkville Daily News through a public records request state that Davis was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance.
The affidavit from the arrest says the responding officer found 10.2 grams of cocaine in a container in Davis' front left pocket.
Details or location of the incident have not been released by police.
Davis was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail and was released after his total bond was set at $5,269.25.
If found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, Davis could face up to 20 years in prison and $500,000 in fines, according to Mississippi Code § 41-29-139(c)(1)(D).
