Hoskins
A Starkville man with a history of burglary offenses is in jail after police received a call of a suspicious person at The Balcony apartments on Monday.
The Starkville Police Department responded to the call Monday night at about 7 p.m. at The Balcony apartments in the 200 block of South Montgomery Street and arrested 47-year-old Ocie Hoskins after a brief investigation.
Hoskins was charged with residential burglary and is currently being held in the Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
If he does not bond out, Hoskins will have an initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court on Wednesday.
The arrest on Monday is not the first time Hoskins has been accused of burglary.
In April 2007, he was indicted on seven counts of burglary and pleaded guilty to four counts of commercial burglary in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court.
Court records show Hoskins pleaded guilty to the following burglaries: the House of Flowers (Aug. 30, 2006); Ernie George Investment Management Inc. (Oct. 7, 2006); Bright Appliances (Oct. 7, 2006) and the Inside Addition (Oct. 7 ,2006).
Circuit Court Judge Lee Howard sentenced Hoskins on the four counts to a total of 23 years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections followed by five years post-release supervision.
At the time of his arrest on Monday, Hoskins was out on parole.
According to court documents, Hoskins has an eighth grade education and previously told a circuit court judge that he is illiterate and learning disabled.
Prior to his 2007 conviction, Hoskins was also convicted of six burglaries and armed robbery.
Those convicted of residential burglary in the state of Mississippi can face up to 25years in prison, according to Mississippi Code § 97-17-23.
