After shots were fired on Sunday evening, two Starkville siblings were arrested on charges of assaulting an elderly man.
The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Kaia Cox, and 23-year-old Terrence Cox, on charges of aggravated domestic assault Sunday evening. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office took Kaia Cox into custody at 6:55 p.m., then took Terrence Cox into custody at 10 p.m.
Deputies were called to Butler Road Sunday evening after shots were fired and reported to authorities.
According to Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Lt. Brett Watson, when the deputies arrived, they found the shots had been fired in the defense of an elderly man, who had been assaulted Saturday afternoon.
No one was injured by the shots fired on Sunday.
The victim from Saturday’s assault sustained injuries, but did not require treatment.
The deputies were able to encounter Kaia Cox and Terrence Cox at the scene Sunday.
After the county’s investigation, warrants were issued for the arrests of the siblings.
Kaia Cox and Terrence Cox were both released on bails of $5,000 each Sunday evening.
Both siblings are scheduled to appear in Oktibbeha County Justice Court on Sept. 11.
